Instantly recognizable as the iconic style of the 1950s, this woven stool from a limited run of Lloyd Loom furniture is a beautiful example of Atomic Age design.

Superbly proportioned, this collector's piece demonstrates key motifs from the mid-20th century Atomic design movement: boomerang curves, an undulating 'amoeba' style shaped top and angled legs, tapering to a slender, delicate finish.

This stool takes its place among the wider design motifs of the 1950s signalling the Space Age: rocket ships, stars, abstract shapes. All express a bold vision of progress to a confident scientific future.

Traditionally, Lloyd Loom furniture is painted to take its place among your contemporary rooms. This piece follows this tradition, sprayed in sleek black and gold, and restored for a stylish 21st century decor.

Perfect for interior theatrical lighting, black satin legs provide a discreet and clean, sleek finish; the gold is perfectly chosen to reflect textured variations in light and shade. The underside complements the whole in a restored heritage colour for the 1950s, duck egg blue.

The weave, maintaining its strength - with slight irregularities at pressure points as shown in the photographs - is now over 60 years old, and clearly shows the durability of the Lloyd Loom technique.

New feet have been placed on the base of the legs; the original label is returned to its position with brass fixings. Underneath the label is the stamp DEC 58.

This little design classic is now a rare find.
