SOLD Original Oil Painting on Canvas, Italian Art by post-war Artist Giovanni Cera, 'Il Mimo'
An arresting oil painting of Expressive, Imaginative Art from Italy in the second half of the Twentieth Century.
This
collectible piece asks the viewer to pause, question, and wonder - we
love the ambiguities in the composition and characters. The artist has
conjured a world of realism and imagination set against calm composure
and dynamic physical movement. Mood blues of the background are painted
in contrast to the whitened face, blackened eyes and red lips of Il Mimo
- the mime performer who stands to the right of the piece.
Italy
has always been a ground of provocative, exploratory art and the second
half of the Twentieth Century is no exception. Italian art at this time
explored very human ideas of what art can be composed from, and how
unconventional art can channel human feelings, ideas, and experiences of
living.
The artist, Giovanni Cera, sold work through a Turin
Gallery, Galleria Accademia Torino from 1969. Rare pieces have found
their way out of Italy, and we are pleased to be able to offer this very
unusual painting. There is a historic mend to canvas on the rear and
evidence the item has been set to wall or frame at some point in its
life. Various text references are to rear, including the artist
signature and painting title.
You'll need a display space 60cm
by 120cm. We have left the canvas revealed at the edge without
additional frame. It is a painting sure to continue to intrigue.
