We're delighted to offer these prestige Salter's weighing scales - a weighing machine - originating from the early 1900s.
These antique scales are restored for your continuing use today. The cast iron body is cleaned and resprayed; the paper face reprinted to cleanly display the Salter Staffordshire Knot Trademark; the calibration mechanism repaired, and the surrounding brass fixing ring restored. As an antique item, the scales are resonant of their years; the brass and chrome effect finish for example carry a beautiful texture and patina.
But these original scales are more than elegant, with their Art Nouveau flourishes: a history of British society and manufacturing is integral to this item.
They were created in an early 1900s Edwardian culture keen on outdoor health and fitness. The Salter Spring Works Football Team, originally called the West Bromwich Strollers, adopted the later name, West Bromwich Albion. The name resonates around the world today as the professional football team, while the 'Albion' on the paper face remains the historic name of these turn-of-the-century scales.
The scales are in good working order, as at the turn of the 20th century; a testament to great functional design. You can easily set and reset the scales via a turning screw at the rear.
