Traditional Accent for Cottage / Townhouse Hallway and Fireplace: Cast Iron Coal Scuttle Belgium c1930

Theme Traditional Interior Design!

Read below for delivery options on this charming vintage coal scuttle from Belgium, in great condition at nearly 100 years old.

Used as an ornamental accent, a coal scuttle placed in hall or entryway not only shines on a tiled, stone, or wooden floor. A domestic scuttle evokes a welcoming warmth on arrival - a true heart of the home greeting.

Place a scuttle in your hearth throughout summer - keep as a traditional holder for grasses, dried flowers and sticks collected from the walk - and your accent continues to strike a comforting note of tradition in a country or townhouse interior.

But this little scuttle is not just beautiful. Use as a practical object - to store kindling or coal - and you'll find this helpful item keeps going strong, while facing its birthday as a centenarian. No splits, no cracks. Beautiful and useful!

The scuttle is a pleasing shape, stamped LFB (Le Fonderies Bruxelloise / The Foundries of Brussels), and carries a variety of markings on base and interior. The top is enamelled to resemble ceramic tiles and carries a delicate swaggered ribbon and flower pattern in pink, green and blue.

Finding this style of Belgium ironware is rare in the UK. Due to their weight they are not often transported far from home and they were not a bulk imported item to the UK. A rare touch of domestic history, too.
