Victorian Torchere / Plant stand / Ornamental Column

 

This Torchère stands an imposing 146cm high and commands a base of 39cm x 39cm. Mahogany-red reeded column rises from heavy square platform, decorative carved flowers, elegant leaf design and gleaming polished wood.

This grand statement piece has been carefully looked after. The wood in the main column is solid with no splits. The veneer at the base is in good condition, and the multiple layerings of varnish and polish ensure a resonant depth of colour throughout.

We have completed minimal restoration work beyond cleaning and minute filling, where a wire for a light was attached, no longer visible. There are no wobbles - the torchère is attached to the base with a hefty non-moving wooden screw - making the whole stable.
